The Playground’s Journey of Joy
描述
When a local kindergarten had to relocate and couldn’t take their large playground set with them, we saw a chance to give this structure new life at a place where it could bring joy. Governor Olivia and I immediately thought of the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation Klang Centre, envisioning the children there enjoying this gift. Unfortunately, we soon discovered that the playground was too big for our space. It was a surprising setback, but we knew we couldn’t give up.
As fate would have it, our neighbours at the Salvation Home Orphanage, led by Pastor Sundar, became our next hopeful destination. Moving the playground there brought so much happiness to the children. Seeing them laugh, run, and play on the playground was a joy beyond words; it was a reminder of why we do what we do. But soon, another twist came along. In October, Pastor Sundar informed us that the orphanage had to move, leaving behind the beloved playground.
Realizing the urgency, I reached out to our Kiwanis Lieutenant Governors for guidance. By a stroke of luck, LG Division 3 said that the Kiwanis Club of Kuantan was eager to take on this playground for their own children's center. Filled with hope once more, our Vice President, Dennis Yam and I joined in, and we organized transport to bring the playground to its new home. However, the first attempt fell short as the truck couldn’t handle the playground's size.
With renewed determination, we set a new moving date and arranged for a bigger lorry and a team to help dismantle the structure. After hours of work, the playground was finally loaded and made its way to Kuantan. However, when it arrived late that night, the gates were locked due to Deepavali celebrations, and the playground remained outside, waiting for one final journey.
Today, on November 8, 2024, the playground has found its forever home at the Kiwanis Club of Kuantan Children’s Center. This journey, though filled with unexpected twists, was worth every effort. We hope that this playground becomes a place of joy, laughter, and connection for the children in Kuantan—a testament to the shared commitment of our community and the spirit of giving. We would like to thank all the relevant parties involved in this arrangement of supply, transport and installation of this playground.

Donate a Book, Share a Story
Greetings! I am excited to share with you an opportunity to make a meaningful impact this Christmas through the “Donate a Book, Share a Story” campaign. Now in its 3rd year, this initiative is organized by Books For A Better World (BFBW) in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (KCTTDI) to provide books to children from underprivileged backgrounds. I would like to invite you and/or your organization to participate by purchasing boxes of books from BFBW to be donated to these children. Each box contains 10 gift-wrapped books and costs only RM100 per box. Your contribution will help bring the joy of reading to the kids we support through Kiwanis. Together, let’s make this Christmas special for the children in need. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting a cause that brings joy and education to those who need it most. How many boxes would you be inspired to contribute to make this holiday season brighter for these children? Best regards, Adrian Ung Books For A Better World
Kiwanis Children's Fund Grant Briefs & Info
The Kiwanis Children's Fund (KCF) offers grants to Kiwanis clubs and districts to support impactful community projects that align with Kiwanis' mission of improving the lives of children and building better communities. These grants are available through several programs, such as the Club Grant Program, Microgrant Program, and District Grant Program. The Club Grant Program funds service projects designed to create measurable benefits for children in need, while the Microgrant Program provides smaller funds for immediate, short-term initiatives. District grants help scale up larger projects within a broader geographic region. Eligible projects should emphasize sustainable, innovative, and community-driven solutions, with a clear focus on addressing critical needs related to health, education, and youth empowerment. The process for applying includes submitting a detailed project proposal that demonstrates how the grant will make a difference and align with KCF’s goals. Kiwanis clubs are encouraged to apply for these grants to expand their local efforts and make a more significant impact aligned with Kiwanis’ mission of improving the world one child and one community at a time.
